How are the results of my test reported?

After testing, our technicians will need to enter the data collected into an online registry of your choosing: CHEERS or Calcerts. We can guide you through the process of creating your file, and then transferring it to us. This is the database where we input all project information. Proper authorities have online access to these results AND if requested, we can provide you with a hard copy report.

What are the steps to starting a project with BarrierEnergy?

Firstly, e-mail any documents you have such as the plan-set and T24 report. Then, you can transfer the authority of your file to BarrierEnergy (ID # 6434 in CalCERTS). Preferably, a technician should come out to test at rough, before any walls are installed. Lastly, we will come back to verify testing at final. For more information, check out our article on How to Get a Certificate of Occupancy.

How much do your services cost?

The cost will not be determined until our technicians perform an evaluation of your file and/or an inspection of the jobsite. However, getting a quote is completely free!

Are these tests required? Why?

Yes, energy efficiency testing is legally required in the state of California. This is because of laws put in place the California Energy Commission. HERS Raters are licensed to perform energy efficiency code compliance testing.

Should I choose the performance or the prescriptive Compliance Tract for my project?

When beginning a construction project, the state requires you to comply with various codes and regulations. However, they do allow you to choose whether you want to take the prescriptive or the performance route. Read our article on Compliance Tracts.
